I've had many hobbies and jobs in my life. What I've found is that one thing leads to another. My hobby of quilting lead me to machine embroidery. While working with the machine embroidery designs it occured to me that I'd like to create my own designs. In order to do that I needed art lessons. So about six years ago I began watercolor art lessons. It has been an extremely fun journey. I'm excited to say that I'm looking forward to continuing on. My husband has been my biggest encourager and support. He always inspires me to do my best. My friends and teachers have been a great source of encouragement and inspiration. Boise and McCall, Idaho are georgous places to live and provide many beautiful views of life.

The Lord has given a world for me to paint. I hope to bring joy to people through my art and glory to the Lord through all I do.

I have always had an interest in art of all kinds, however watercolor has always intrigued me the most. After an early retirement from the “working” world, my interest in learning the watercolor medium became my passion. We moved from California to Idaho in 2002 in 2004 I was fortunate enough to meet an instructor that is extremely talented, in the art field, commercially and privately. I was able to start taking lessons and have been for 3 1/2 years. My interest in art just keeps blossoming as I continually learn new techniques. I love to take my own photo’s and work from them, many times combining two or three photo’s for added interest, perspective and balance.

Painting has become an entirely intuitive process for me, and subjects from nature have inspired my work from the beginning. I have developed the keen ability to see as only artists see, and find beauty and drama where it often goes unnoticed. As a result, most of my work derives from a spontaneous reaction to a visceral excitement that I “read” from a natural object or a human visage, and at once I know that I must capture it on paper.

My medium is watercolor and bold flora and striking portraits are my favorite subjects. The transparent characteristic of watercolor is ideal for layering pigment into luminous washes and creating stunning depth of color. Rendering the interplay of sunlight, shadow, and reflected light on these subjects creates a fascinating dimensionality on the surface of the paper. I strive to make my florals and portraits grab the viewer’s attention right from the first glance. I manipulate abstract shapes within organic forms to steer the viewer’s eyes around a piece, and lead them through the composition via the interplay of shape, color, light, and shadow.
